What is baptism?
Baptism is, as the pictures show, being submerged in water before being lifted out again.

Why do we do it?
You may have heard of John the Baptist who baptised Jesus.  Jesus was baptised and in the Bible he says that Christians are to be baptised too.  Therefore, baptism is being obedient to what Jesus asks us to do.

What does it mean?
Baptism is symbolic as well as spiritual.  It is a public way of saying what we believe as Christians.  Going under the water stands for burying out old life (before we were Christians), and coming up again represents starting a new life as a Christian.

This is what it looks like..  the pool is in the middle of the main hall in the church and the water is normally warm!  Baptisms are a great morning to bring friends and family to – to hear how Jesus has changed people’s lives.
